Roy Taro氏は滞在期間中、広野町を精力的に歩き回り、多数の作品を制作した。「井戸、海へ」はバケツとロープを中心としたインスタレーションである。バケツは高倉山城にあったとされる井戸をイメージしており、ロープは高倉山城の戦いにおける猪狩氏と相馬氏の境界を象徴している。バケツの中の空間は高倉山と広野の海を繋ぐものであり、そこにはRoy Taro氏が広野で書いた詩「夜明けの星」の一節を書いた紙が置かれている。
「山を巡る視点」は今回の滞在制作の中心となったものである。キャンバスには氏が広野町で描いたスケッチを原画とした絵が10層に渡って描き重ねられている。最上層に描かれているのは姥嶽権現堂を抱く丘である。高倉山の落城にまつわる伝説では猪狩氏の女たちが井戸の中に逃げ込んで姥嶽権現堂まで落ちのびたとされる。氏はこの伝説の持つ意味に注目し、本作品では高倉山そのものではなく高倉山から見た姥嶽、つまり生き延びること、未来、希望の象徴を描いた。（文責：加藤晃生）

During his stay, Roy Taro energetically explored Hirono town and created numerous works. “The Well, To the Sea” is an installation with a bucket and rope. The bucket represents a well said to have been located at Takakurayama Castle, and the rope symbolizes the boundary between the Igari and Soma clans during the Battle of Takakurayama Castle in 16th Century. The space inside the bucket connects Takakurayama and the sea of Hirono, and a piece of paper with a line from “Morning Star,” a poem Roy Taro wrote in Hirono, is placed there.
“Perspectives of Mountain” is the central work created during this residency. The canvas features ten layers of drawings based on sketches he made in Hirono town. The top layer depicts the hill embracing the Ubatake Gongendo shrine. Legend surrounding the fall of Takakurayama Castle tells of the women of the Igari clan fleeing into a well and reaching the Ubatake Gongendo shrine. The artist focused on the meaning of this legend, and in this work, he depicted not Mount Takakurayama itself, but Ubatake as seen from Takakurayama, that is, a symbol of survival, the future, and hope. “The Mythical Sea” (second image) is a collaborative work between the artist and the art club of Futaba Mirai Gakuen, Roy set up an workshop in which they freely depicted various images of the sea and sunrise in Hirono Town.
